‘Ik stemde Obama, dus heb ik het recht om negers te pesten’
Wendy van Dijks creatie Lucretia Martina wordt (nog) niet genoemd door Jon Stewart, maar de presentator van The Daily Show signaleert wel een wereldwijde schoensmeertrend. In Frankrijk lieten modellen zich zwart schminken, in Amerika en Australië verkleedden dansmariekes zich als donkere rappers en dansers en in Duitsland gebruikte een blanke presentator blackface om te kijken hoe dat nu voelt om als zwarte over straat te gaan. Kan dat wel? Volgens Larry Wilmore, senior black correspondent van The Daily Show, vinden veel blanke Amerikanen dat negertje pesten nu wel weer mag. Men heeft toch immers op Barack Obama gestemd? “Obama is that convenient black friend every white person has to prove the’re not racist, right? I voted for a black man. We’re square. Give me my shoe polish. Let’s party like it’s 1899!”
